  • Help us to honour Emily, family plea

    Tim Clarke

    27 June 2008

THE SISTER of a former Worcester schoolgirl who was killed while taking part in an extreme sport in New Zealand has urged people to support a charity honouring her memory.
The Emily Jordan Foundation was established in the wake of Miss Jordan’s death in April. The 21-year-old drowned while taking part in a river boarding excursion with her boyfriend in central Otago.
The Foundation hopes to raise enough money to provide support to young adults with learning difficulties by creating a smallholding with workshop space to allow people to grow produce and keep animals.
Lucy Jordan, the sister of the former Alice Ottley School pupil, said: “Emily was always involved in helping young adults with learning difficulties, it was something very close to her heart.
“We really want to raise as much as possible so we can use the Foundation not only to help these young people but also to create a lasting legacy to her.“
One of the ways people can support the Foundation is by shopping online through the fund-raising website www.easyfundraising.org.uk which will generate a free donation of up to 15 per cent from every purchase.
People can shop with more than 500 well known retailers including Marks and Spencer, Amazon, NEXT, Boots, eBay and Woolworths.
“This is a very easy way for anyone who shops online to help us,” added Miss Jordan.
“So many of us shop online these days and just by using the easyfundraising website, people can help us raise the funds we need to set up and run the foundation.
“For example, if you spend £50 with Amazon, you’ll generate a free donation of £1.25 for the Foundation. Insure your car with Direct Line and you’ll raise £35, at absolutely no additional cost to you.”
Supporters can raise even more cash when they search the web using easyfundraising’s charity search engine.
By searching the web just ten times per day with http://ejf.easysearch.org.uk surfers can raise around £20 each per year for the Foundation at no cost to themselves.
    To register support visit www.easyfundraising.org.uk/ejf.
