A ZIP wire and activity trail are just some of the fun new features which will be added to a children’s play area as part of an extensive makeover this summer.
The £127,000 refurbishment of Cripplegate Park’s existing play area will see a range of new play equipment installed in the park by the end of August.
The Big Lottery funded scheme will also feature a climbing pyramid with large slides for older children while toddlers can enjoy play activities on a boat, play houses and wigwams.
Trampolines, a larger slide built into a hill and a wobble board will also be created with the city council’s parks department also sprucing up the surrounding landscape by planting new trees, shrubs and flowers. Simon Geraghty, leader of the city council said: “This is a very exciting, ambitious and complex redevelopment of children’s play facilities in Cripplegate Park.
“The project delivers aims set in our play strategy and will provide both a popular local riverside attraction and a stimulating environment for visitors.”
Initial work on the scheme began in March last year when the Big Lottery Fund announced funding for the redevelopment of children’s play areas across the country.
A consultation was carried out with children, the Friends of Cripplegate Park and park users to help come up with plans for an imaginative scheme to transform the old play area.
