FUN and fire safety will be the focus of the inaugural community safety day at Worcester Racecourse on Saturday (June 27).
Firefighters from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service will be holding the family fun day to get across serious message about fire safety.
During the day youngsters can take part in a house fire demonstration, a dramatic water rescue from the River Severn, road traffic collision demonstrations as well as a chip pan fire and a gas fire “explosion” demonstrations.
Richard Jordan, station manager at Worcester Fire Station, said, “This will be the first time we have organised a major event to raise the community’s awareness for safety in the home, on the roads and on the water.
“There will be something for all the family to watch, enjoy and take part in and, at the same time, give us the opportunity to demonstrate our skills,” he added.
Youngsters can climb aboard a fire engine ride or have a go at a climbing wall as well as meet the Urban Search and Rescue team and look at the Air Ambulance and Police Helicopters.
The event is organised in conjunction with Worcester Racecourse, Worcester City Council and will take place from 11am to 5pm. It is in conjunction with Child Safety Week which ends on Sunday and other agencies involved include British Red Cross, St John Ambulance, Royal National Lifeboats, West Mercia Constabulary and Worcestershire Road Safety.
