  • Clive bags climbing milestone

    Chris Swann

    27 June 2008

A POLICE inspector has become part of an elite group of climbers to have ‘bagged’ all of Scotland’s 284 Munros.
Clive Griffiths, who is normally responsible for policing in Malvern, joined the growing group of Munro-baggers after climbing Ben More on the island of Mull.
The 48-year old said: “Since my father-in-law introduced me to climbing I have loved it, it is such a good way to re-charge the batteries.
“I was determined to climb all of the Munros before I was 50 which I’m pleased to say I have now done.”
Having now climbed each of the mountains which are over 3,000 feet high he highlighted a handful of his favourites.
“Among the many highlights were The Black Cuillin on Skye; the Forcan Ridge and also Ben Nevis in winter and walking above the clouds on Creag Meagaidh and Sgurr Mor,” he said.
The inspector is the 4,065th person recorded by the Scottish Mountaineering Club to have climbed all the Munros, and has been awarded with a certificate of completion.
“Scotland has so many fantastic mountains and I will be going back to do the best again,” he added.
“Having said that I still love the Malverns and the walk from one end to the other is one of the best around.”
