AN ADVENTUROUS group of teenagers have been offered the chance of a lifetime to help a deprived community in Africa.

But to make the trip to Kenya possible, the year ten students from Christopher Whitehead Language College are urging people to help them raise the funds needed to get them on the plane.

Nine pupils have taken up the challenge to make the mammoth trip later this year after the opportunity became available on their International GCSE course in Global Perspectives.

The group, along with organisers Camp International, plan to travel to the village of Muhaka for a week where they will help build a school, while also learning a number of skills to help them with their coursework.

To make this possible they have been working hard to stage a number of events to secure the £15,000 needed for the whole group to make the trip.

Teacher Sam De Abreu, who will be travelling to Kenya with the group, said: “They are going to benefit enormously as they are going to see a wider perspective of the world, seeing situations outside of their regular day to day living.

“They are going to be able to make a difference to people who perhaps do not have the same opportunities as them.”

The next fund-raising event will take place at Christopher Whitehead Language College on Thursday, January 26, at 7pm where there will be a quiz with prizes and a raffle.

Teams can have a maximum of four players and it costs £2.50 per person to enter.
