AN EXHIBITION exploring the history of the silver screen has got underway as part of Worcestershire Film Festival.

Worcester City Art Museum is hosting the free exhibition, called Worcestershire Cinema Through the Ages, which runs until Saturday, March 24. It looks back at the last 100 years of cinema and its impact on culture, art and society.

One of the features of the exhibition is a seven foot high projector, which has been moved from the Odeon Cinema in Worcester. There are also various photos, artefacts and a short film about a projectionist.

Simon Munn, who is curator of the exhibition and director of the Worcestershire Film Festival, said: “Unfortunately many of our cinemas have been forgotten to make way for the multiplex. This exhibition not only highlights a bygone age but also emphasises the need to protect those traditional picture houses that still stand today.”

Other festival events are being planned for later in the year.
