Impressive Gordon wins BBL award

By Nigel Slater 04/01 Updated: 06/01 16:05

WORCESTER Wolves ace Richie Gordon has capped off a great few months on the court by winning the Molten BBL Player of the Month award for December.

The centre, who has been in impressive form throughout this season, enjoyed a fabulous end to 2011 with some stunning contributions which saw the Wolves climb up to joint-top position of the BBL Championship.

Gordon, signed from West Carolina University during pre-season, averaged an impressive 20.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game in December to help Wolves rack up more December wins than any other team in the league.

The delighted Wolves star said after being awarded the accolade: "It feels good to get an individual award but it's more about the Wolves being recognised for who we are as a team."

Gordon's form has also been recognised with him being selected three times for the BBL Team of the Week accolade.

Wolves head coach Paul James was delighted for his centre and said the award was fully deserved for his match-winning efforts.

"This is a fantastic award for the young man," he said. "Richie is going from strength to strength. He is like a sponge, absorbing information and learning every day.

"He is doing a fabulous job for the team and I give my congratulations to him."

Title contenders Wolves return to action next Friday with an away trip to Mersey Tigers followed by a home game against bottom of the table Durham Wildcats on Saturday (tip-off 7pm).
