MANAGER Carl Heeley is confident Worcester City's new signings with gel and strengthen their play-off challenge.

Heeley has brought in a number of new faces in the past few weeks including defenders Tyler Weir, Simon Whitehead and Ellis Deeney and forward Phil Green.

The City boss was unhappy with the amount of goals his side were leaking and decided to wield the axe with Martyn Naylor and Neil Cartwright both leaving the club.

But the change in personnel has so far failed to halt the slump in City's fortunes, which has seen them lose their last four league outings and slip seven points behind the play off chasing pack.

Despite the poor recent run Heeley believes the changes he has made will eventually be rewarded.

"I looked at the goals against column and felt that it wasn't good enough to sustain a challenge," he said.

"I decided to be a bit bold and make a few changes but it's going to take time for them to gel and we have to be a little bit patient. But we were never going to keep clean sheets with the personnel we had so we have changed things around. Let's hope in a couple of weeks when they have got used to each other it will improve us."

City will look to get their league campaign back on track when they make the long trip to struggling Workington on Saturday before taking on Histon at St George's Lane on Monday night (7.45pm ko).

City have slashed their prices for the Histon clash in a bid to attract a big gate with adults being charged £7 and concessions just £3 - a reduction of £4. Juniors (u16s) will pay just £1.

Rich Widdowson, City's sponsorship and hospitality director, said: "We looked at previous Monday night games and saw the crowds were down a bit. So we thought we would test the water and see whether people would come back if it was cheaper on a Monday night. If we get a big crowd then we will definitely consider doing it again. It's also a thank you to our supporters."
