WORCESTER Wolves returned to joint top of the BBL Championship on Saturday with a comfortable win over struggling Durham Wildcats.
After beating the Mersey Tigers the night before, Wolves continued their fine start to the New Year with a solid 86-72 win in front of their supporters and piled on even more misery against their bottom of the table opponents.
Richie Gordon, who before tip-off was presented with the golden painted Molton match ball for being BBL Player of the Month for December, continued his good form scoring ten points and five rebounds early on to see Wolves take control at the University of Worcester.
Wolves forward Tommy Freeman returned to court after being suspended for the Mersey Tigers clash and points from the American gave the home side a 21-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Three-point shooting from Durham's Paul Elderkin kept the game tight but when he was forced to the bench after making two fouls, Wolves' lead increased with David Watts scoring consecutive baskets and Carlos Fernandez scoring from outside the arc just before half time.
The second half saw Wolves turn up the heat with Gordon impressing at both ends of the court and Sherrad Prezzie-Blue bagged a couple of three-pointers to give Paul James' side a commanding 67-48 lead going into the final quarter.
With a massive lead, the game was as good as over but Gordon kept up his scoring to give him a very impressive 30 points and 20 rebounds as Worcester eased to victory.
Wolves now sit joint-top of the BBL Championship having collected 22 points from their 14 games, alongside Newcastle Eagles who currently have two games in hand.
