STUDENTS at a Worcester college are celebrating the opening of a new chill-out space where they can escape from the stress of their studies.

The Student Union Bureau (SUB) at Worcester College of Technology includes a pool table, games consoles, board games, computers, vending machines and a projection system.

There is also space for young people to chat to student union representatives in private.

The college has relocated some of its offices to the nearby Virginia House to help create the student space, which is based on the same idea as a university Student Union.

Its official opening was carried out by Richard Matthews, from Stone Computers, who donated several computers to the project.

Student Union President David Hull-Blanchard said: “The lack of a dedicated student recreational space is something which many students have previously suggested they would like to see at the college and I am pleased to see that we have been able to make this a reality.

Very few colleges can offer the same service and facilities which are now available to students at the college and it’s testament to quality of services we have to offer”.
