A GROUP of footballers gave litter the red card as they attempted to tidy up their local area.
Players from Hylton Road Rovers Football Club, along with staff from McDonald’s and students from the University of Worcester, took part in the Love Where You Live campaign on Saturday (February 18).
The two-hour event, which aims to make Worcester a cleaner and more attractive city, saw the team of 23 volunteers litter pick along the riverside paths on both sides of the River Severn, between the Sabrina and Diglis bridges.
Coun Roger Knight, who also took part, said: “I would like to thank everyone who came along, especially considering the weather.
“Everyone was drenched and cold but that didn’t curb their enthusiasm. Halfway through I asked if they wanted to stop and go home but they said ‘No let’s carry on, but we will up the pace a bit’. They did a great job.”
