PADDY Considine’s award winning directorial debut Tyrannosaur (18) will be screened at the Splendid Cinema this Sunday (March 25).
The film tells the story of an unemployed and alcoholic widower, Joseph (Peter Mullan), a man plagued by violence and a rage which is driving him towards self-destruction.
But he sees the opportunity for redemption in his burgeoning friendship with an unhappy Christian charity worker, Hannah (Olivia Coleman).
She has her own secrets, however, including a physically abusive relationship with her husband James (Eddie Marsan).
Written and directed by Burton-on-Trent born actor Considine, who also wrote and starred in Shane Meadows’s Dead Man’s Shoes (2004), Tyrannosaur is a beautifully realised film with some remarkable performances from its three leading actors.
The film has won several prestige awards, including Best British Independent Film, Best Debut Director and Best Actress at the British Independent Film Awards and swept the board in the World Cinema category at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, collecting awards for Considine for directing and both Mullen and Coleman for their performances. Tyrannosaur was also awarded the Best British Film at last year’s BAFTA awards.
The film is being screened at the Worcester Arts Workshop on Sansome Street at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 on the door with the box office open from 7pm. Café Bliss is also open for a pre-show treat.
