THE QUEEN will give her Royal seal of approval to Worcester's new £60million history and library centre when she visits the city as part of her Diamond Jubilee tour this summer.

It has been revealed Her Majesty will officially open The Hive during her visit on Wednesday, July 11 before she moves on to Worcester Guildhall for a reception and lunch with community representatives from across the county.

Thousands of people are then expected to line the High Street where the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will meet residents and be greeted by two themed displays celebrating Worcester's heritage.

The Royal couple's tour will end with a concert in Worcester Cathedral featuring words and music celebrating the Diamond Jubilee.

Adrian Hardman, Leader of Worcestershire County Council said: "During this very special Royal year, the visit to Worcestershire by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to open The Hive is an honour and privilege.

"It will focus a well deserved spotlight on the county and we are tremendously proud to be showcasing the county's newest public building to the Royal couple. "
