Drivers urged to take care as heavy rain sweeps county

Wednesday 21 November 2012 Updated: 22/11 09:59

DRIVERS are being warned to stay safe on the roads as heavy rain continues to fall.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has issued a reminder to residents they should not drive through flood water.

As well as the risk of damage to the car, there may be hazards under the water motorists are unable to see.

Homeowners whose properties are at risk of flooding should also monitor the weather situation closely.

Station commander Alan Haley said: "We are urging all motorists to exercise caution if they find themselves driving through flood water.

"Please use common sense and follow our simple advice. Stay alert to local weather and news reports and if the area is experiencing flooding it's advisable to leave any non-essential travel until any flooding has subsided."

Up to date floor information is available by calling Floodline on 0845 988 1188. Visit www.hwfire.org.uk for more advice.
