FIFTY jobs have been created by a budget retailer which is set to open its doors in the city's new £70million retail and leisure quarter on Friday.

B&M is the third business to move into the St Martin's Quarter in Lowesmoor and will be situated close to the Asda car park and Fit4Free gym on the corner of St Martin's Gate and Pheasant Street.

The store - which sells top branded products ranging from furniture and electrical goods to clothing, toys and hair and beauty products - will be managed by Andrew Bradley, from Worcester, who has worked for the company for ten years.

Mr Bradley has been based at B&M in Dudley for the past decade during which time the retailer has expanded from 16 to more than 300 stores across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Mr Bradley said: "We will offer something to Worcester that it has been missing, a fantastic range of branded products at unbelievably low prices. It constantly amazes me why people shop anywhere else."

Selwyn Rowley, spokesman for the St Martin’s Quarter's developers Carillion Richardson, said: “The letting of units at St Martin’s Quarter is now gathering pace and we are delighted to see such a dynamic retail chain that will add to the footfall generated by ASDA and Fit4Free and offer great value shopping."

Mr Rowley said he expected there to be a succession of announcements on the arrival of other stores in the St Martin's Quarter in the new year.
