A TREE-MENDOUS community effort has helped to bring some extra sparkle to a church’s Christmas celebrations.

About 25 Christmas trees now adorn St Martin’s Church on London Road which have been provided and decorated by the many groups involved with the church including local schools It is the sixth year it has organised the Festival of Christmas Trees and people are being invited to come along and marvel at the decorations anytime from 10am to 4pm.

One of the organisers Shirley Scott said: “We start early in December because all the local primary schools hold their Christmas services here, as well as the London Road Playgroup Nativity Play. We’ve already had two of our four Christmas concerts, and the trees in church really add to the atmosphere.”

An informal coffee concert will also be held in the church on Saturday, December 22 from 10.30am to 11.30am in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice. Hallow Handbell Ringers will be performing an arrangement of carols and seasonal songs.

Coffee and speciality teas are available with home-made cakes and mince pies.

Entry is free, with donations accepted for Acorns.
