Victims urged not to suffer in silence this Christmas

VICTIMS of domestic abuse are being urged to seek support and not suffer in silence this Christmas.

The stresses and excesses of the festive season including debt and alcohol tend to a spark an increase in abuse but the Worcestershire Forum Against Domestic Abuse wants to help victims escape their suffering.

The appeal comes in the wake of the recent 16 Days of Action international campaign to raise awareness of domestic abuse and provide support to victims.

Martin Lakeman, strategic co-ordinator for The Forum said: “Traditionally domestic abuse is more prevalent during times of the year when occasions mark our annual calendar, such as Christmas and New Year."

"Many women and men continue to endure domestic abuse for the sake of keeping their relationship together and their family intact. However, this can have devastating affect; children in particular can be seriously affected by both witnessing and experiencing domestic abuse."

Mr Lakeman urged victims to call the county helpline for free and confidential advice, rather than put themselves and their children through another miserable Christmas.
