ASSISTANT manager Matt Gardiner praised the form of winger Greg Mills as Worcester City ended their long wait for a league victory at St George's Lane.

Mills set up Jacob Rowe's opener before netting his third goal in four games as City beat play off rivals Bradford Park Avenue 2-0 to secure their first league victory at home since September 15.

Gardiner was delighted with the performance of the entire City side but singled out Mills for special praise.

"A special mention for Greg - that's three goals in four for him as well as assists. You can see his work rate off the ball as well," Gardiner said.

"We worked on set pieces on Thursday and on Greg's delivery and it has paid off."

The victory was City's first in a run of six games which has been littered with difficult clashes against promotion rivals including Guiseley, Chester, FC Halifax and Park Avenue.

"I think when we came into this little run of games we knew it was going to be tough and we are probably a couple of points behind where we thought we were going to be," he said.

"We've played some good teams in the division and Bradford are one of those. It's just nice to get a result, three points and a clean sheet. Sometimes you just have to concentrate on that and after the run we have had it was pleasing to do that."

"In the last four or five games we have started really well but haven't been getting that early goal but we did that and put them on the back foot. They had their little period in the first half with a lot of corners and pressure but we have defended it well."
