Phone parking is just the ticket

A SCHEME which allows motorists to top up their stay in city centre car parks using their mobile phone has been hailed a success.

RingGo has been in place for two years but in the past 12 months there has been a surge in interest with usage increasing by 73 per cent.

The system means people can pay for parking in any of the city centre car parks using their debit or credit card and a mobile phone. It also allows people to extend their stay by phone without having to go back to the car park to buy another ticket.

It has been paid for by the Worcester Business Improvement District (BID), a not for profit organisation funded by over 550 city centre businesses.

BID manager Adrian Field said RingGo had been used more than 106,000 times by customers paying for their parking by phone.

"Our aim is to make it easier and quicker for people to park and also to allow them to stay as long as they want in Worcester city centre if they haven’t quite finished shopping, meeting up with friends or completed a meeting in an office," he added.

Sally Blundell, who owns The Dress Agency Exchange and Smart in New Street, said RingGo had been brilliant for her customers.

"After a quick phone call, they can prolong their car parking and, as a direct result, we benefit from more sales. They can happily spend more time shopping," she added.
