Thieves target historic paving blocks

HISTORIC paving blocks have been stolen from three homes in Worcester.

The blue blocks were taken from front garden paths and side alleyways of Victorian and Edwardian houses.

They included a theft on Astwood Road on Wednesday, November 28, Fort Royal Hill on Friday, November 30 and Church Road on Saturday, December 1.

During the theft at Astwood Road a man was disturbed while removing the bricks.

He was described as being white, in his 20s, tall and slim with dark hair and he spoke with a Worcester accent. He was later seen in a white Transit-type panel van.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "It is likely these bricks will be sold on in the reclamation market, so we would like to appeal to any local traders to be on the look out for anyone offering them period bricks."

The spokesman also warned anyone living period properties to be on their guard against potential thieves.

Anyone with information on the thefts can call the non-emergency police number 101 or information can be passed on anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
