Wanderers struggle past rivals Hereford

SAM CARTER and Ollie Burton were on the scoresheet as unbeaten Worcester Wanderers overcame a tough test to see off Hereford 18-7.

After surrendering top spot in Midlands One West last week to Old Halesonians, Wanderers would have been hoping to let their frustrations out on their local rivals.

But, instead, struggled to get out of their own half in the opening quarter as Hereford dominated the early stages.

Worcester held firm and, against the run of play, took the lead with a penalty from Tom Biggs.

The score turned the game around as Wanderers began to put the visitors on the back foot. And after several surges, Burton spotted a gap on the blind side of a ruck to go over.

But Hereford hit straight back as they battered the home side's try line before Jamie Bullock crashed over, which Charlie Loughman converted.

Holding a slender 8-7 at the interval, Worcester started brightly and extended their lead with a penalty from Biggs.

Despite being ruled out a try from Jake Saddington for a double movement, the hosts could not finish off their chances as they camped out in Hereford's half.

But their persistence was eventually rewarded as Carter went over in the corner, which Biggs converted from the touch line to secure victory.
