PUPILS in Worcester are on the look out for pond life after their school splashed out on a new addition to its revamped grounds.

Staff and children at Cherry Orchard Primary School have been busy trying to turn what was an unused plot of land into a wildlife haven so they can take some of their lessons outside.

The creation of a large pond comes after children took part in a competition in the spring to come up with a design.

Pupils and staff then started working on the land, which saw the addition of a wildlife meadow and a pagoda, while the school liaised with contractors.

The pond was completed last month and headteacher Jeremy Harwood said he was looking forward to seeing it flourish over the next few months as plants start to grow around it.

"We are delighted it has worked out like it has and the response from the children has been really enthusiastic," he said.

"The plants will not all come to fruition until the spring, but we are happy to report we have seen a number of frogs and toads checking the pond out."
