THE New Year is a time to look both forward and back to review the past.
Having just celebrated Christmas, our focus has been very much on our family.
It is therefore important that we do not forget those without that support.
The year has seen tremendous upheaval in the Middle East and the effects of a hurricane on the richest nation, when it hit New York.
Locally, we have experienced a ‘near miss’ when our flood barriers held but not so for many people elsewhere in the UK who are now busy cleaning up.
Next year in Worcester will see a new hotel appearing at Worcestershire cricket ground and a large arena at the University of Worcester. We must however concentrate on bringing new jobs to the city and ensure families do not suffer from planned cuts in benefits and local services.
We hope that the forthcoming year will see a more caring and less selfish society. It is vital that we support those less fortunate than ourselves. Our nominated charities - St Paul’s Hostel and Maggs Day Centre - require help throughout the year.
The Mayoress and I wish you all a prosperous and happy New Year.
