BUDDING stargazers can explore the wonders of the night sky at a series of special events taking place in the coming weeks.
Worcester Astronomical Society are giving people the chance to observe planets, stars and gas clouds through powerful telescopes.
A free public observing session is being held at Bishop Perowne CE College on Merrimans Hill Road this Friday (Jan 11) at 7pm and kicks of the first of three events being organised to coincide with the return of the BBC’s popular Stargazing Live programmes.
People will have the chance to look at Jupiter, the Orion Nebula and other wonders of the night sky through society members’ telescopes at the college.
The society also hopes to have its special low light video camera in use to project images onto a screen in the adjoining sports hall. There will also be demonstrations of telescopes and displays about astronomy.
On Saturday (Jan 12) the society will have a stand at Droitwich Library’s Space Day before a Telescope Amnesty on Thursday, January 17 at 8.45pm in the Crown East Scout Hut at Crown East.
People with a new telescope or one that has been gathering dust can learn more about how to use it.
