A FREELANCE artist and illustrator from Worcester who has battled back from a brain tumour has helped create a calendar to raise funds for a charity which supports other people diagnosed with the condition.

The 2013 calendar has been designed and photographed by Bridget Dowty, 47, and Stefania Distante, 36, who is a photographer from Bishops Cleeve near Cheltenham.

Both women underwent surgery to remove brain tumours and hope to use the calendar to raise much-needed funds for Hammer Out, a charity that supports tumour patients as well as their carers and families.

The two friends have together created the calendar of stunning images and inspiring prose.

Every penny raised by the calendars, after printing costs, will benefit Hammer Out’s pioneering work.

Bridget, who was diagnosed with a tumour ten years ago, said: “I was fortunate that my tumour was benign - many people are not so fortunate - and after surgery and despite some serious complications, I made a complete recovery.”

“I feel so lucky and Hammer Out is a great charity. As my partner says, 'they do good things for good people when they need it most' and I want to help make more people aware of their work, to reach more people who need their support and also receive more support themselves to keep growing."

She said Stefania and herself had spent many hours selecting beautiful landscape images and pairing them with inspirational quotes which all refer to Hammer Out's values.

“Anyone who buys a calendar, for themselves or as a gift, can rest assured that they will be helping a very valuable and deserving charity," she added.

Hammer Out is based in south Gloucestershire and was started in 2003 by Tina Mitchell Skinner after her husband, Paul Mitchell, was diagnosed with a fast-growing brain tumour in 2001 which eventually claimed his life.

It is now one of the leading brain tumour charities in the UK.

The calendar costs £5 and can be ordered at www.hammerout.co.uk or by telephone on 01454 414355.
