PEOPLE who unwrapped a new bike for Christmas are being encouraged to saddle up and enjoy the stunning Worcestershire countryside on two wheels by joining a new cycling group.

Just Leisure Rides meets on the third Sunday of every month for a scenic, three hour easy-paced ride along quiet roads and canal paths.

The rides are suitable for people of all abilities and are the brain-child of Dan Bayliss and Mike Cooper who are both volunteers for the sustainable transport charity Sustrans.

Mr Cooper said: "We wanted to promote a great way to cycle with others, to enjoy the Worcestershire countryside and support local enterprise."

The rides usually start out from the Pump House Environment Centre in Barbourne at 10.30am and the next event takes place on Sunday, January 20. The 15 mile route will take in Fernhill Heath, Ladywood, Hadley, Ombersley, Hawford, Porter's Mill and Claines before returning to the Pump House.

It will include a stop for coffee and other refreshments in Hadley.

People of all abilities are welcome to take part so long as they have a roadworthy bike and people under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
