Campaigners back fight against human trafficking

Wednesday 30 January 2013 Updated: 31/01 15:52

DOMESTIC abuse campaigners in the county have pledged their support for a national campaign against human trafficking.

The Worcestershire Forum Against Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence is backing the Crimestoppers scheme, which encourages residents to pass on information anonymously about forced labour exploitation.

Strategic co-ordinator Martin Lakeman said: "We all have a responsibility to tackle human trafficking and the forum - with its remit to challenge domestic abuse and sexual violence - thoroughly supports this campaign."

"Raising awareness of what to look for is key as the victims are often unseen by society and members of the public may not realise that they are seeing victims of labour exploitation, and those controlling them, in different environments as they go about their daily business. The victims of forced labour are often the most vulnerable in our society and the effects of servitude and suffering can be devastating."
