A COLLECTION of hidden treasures held at a Worcestershire mansion house are set to go on public display for the first time.

Croome Court, near Pershore, will be unveiling various paintings, ceramics and personal items belonging to the Coventry family as part of a Midlands campaign by the National Trust encouraging visitors to Discover Something New.

The mansion does not usually have any objects or furnishings on display as the house waits to undergo major repairs and instead holds a small collection in store, away from public viewing.

Most of the furniture that used to be in the house was sold by 1948 and lies in private collections and museums around the world.

“We intend to bring part of the collection back to the house in 2016 after Croome Redefined’s major repair work is complete, but until then we would like to show our visitors some of the best bits from the collection we do have” said Lucy Hadley, House and Visitor Services Manager.

“We’ve never brought these out for display before, so we’re very excited about showing our visitors something very special. We will show something different every week and our House Officer, Lucy Hadley and her volunteer team, also hope to carry out conservation work on the items too, so visitors can really see what our collection is all about.”

Items will be on show until Friday, May 3.

Croome will also be opening its eye-catcher follies, promoting a new tree identification booklet, creating a new bird hide for bird spotters, hosting guided tours on Saturdays and running two illuminated letter workshops.
