Confusing signs removed from roadworks

NO ENTRY signs which confused some motorists as they drove through busy roadworks in Barbourne this morning (Monday) have been taken down.

The start of major sewer work by Severn Trent Water has prompted the closure of the southbound A449 Ombersley Road to city-bound traffic with diversions onto the A38 Droitwich Road now in place.

But many motorists driving away from the city centre were left confused by no entry signs which appeared on the northbound side of Ombersley Road, close to the Old Toll House.

The signs have now been removed after drivers alerted Worcestershire County Council's Highways department to the problem.

Highways manager Jon Fraser said: "An issue with signage at the site of Severn Trent works at Barbourne was identified today and this has now been corrected. Many thanks to everyone who took the time and trouble to let us know about this problem."

Temporary traffic lights have also been installed on the A38 Barbourne Road opposite Gheluvelt Park.

The traffic lights at the Old Toll House have been turned off meaning a diversion for Ombersley Road city-bound traffic across to the A38 Droitwich Road prior to the junction itself.

The advised diversion route for traffic coming from out-of-town/Kidderminster is via the northern bypass and Fernhill Heath.

For Northwick traffic the signed diversion is via Checketts Lane.
