A BLOCKBUSTER store in Worcester city centre has avoided the latest wave of closures at the crisis-hit DVD and video game rental chain which went into administration last month.
Adminstrators Deloitte have today (Wednesday) announced it is to shut another 164 stores over the coming weeks as part of a phased closure.
But they confirmed the Blockbuster on Shrub Hill Retail Park was not among those facing the axe as administrators try and find a buyer for the company's surviving stores.
We reported last month how Blockbuster on Ambleside Drive in Warndon was named among an initial 129 store closures, meaning the loss of about five jobs.
Lee Manning, Joint Administrator, said: “We have continued to review the performance of individual stores since our appointment a month ago and have concluded that further closures are necessary in order to restructure the company for sale. We would like to thank the company’s employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time and we are also grateful for the continued support of customers. We are in discussions with a number of parties interested in purchasing all or parts of the business and will update on progress in due course.”
