MORE than 100 residents crammed into a school hall in Powick to protest against contentious plans to build 45 homes in the village.
The public meeting at Powick CE Primary School saw a number of people speak out against developer Bovis Homes' proposals, with many of the concerns centring around traffic congestion and the sustainability of the village.
There was also strong opposition to Bovis' plans to knock down a house on Russell Close to create access to the site.
Sarah Beard, of Russell Close, said: "I used to think to myself as cars came up and down Russell Close, 'one of these days there is going to be a serious accident'. The thought that we are going to have bulldozers crashing through that house makes me very angry. I think it is a terrible situation which we are all faced with."
Meanwhile, Peter Huntington, of Malvern Road, believes the lack of shops in the village would only add to the traffic congestion on the A449.
"There are no facilities in this part of Powick - there is no post office or a shop," Mr Huntington said.
"True, there is one at the garage and there is a supermarket in Malvern, but all of those would involve a car journey thus compounding the traffic problems."
Sarah Williams, of King Charles Avenue, added: "We have to consider the impact of traffic on the A449. The road was not built for that number of houses on both sides and expect it to take the increased traffic."
After hearing residents' views on Wednesday, February 13, members of Powick Parish Council decided to vote against the proposals.
The council will now send their reasons for objection, which includes the impact on the landscape, potential traffic and access issues and sustainability, to Malvern Hills District Council where planners will make the final decision.
