A HISTORIC corner of Worcester was the height of fashion this week as an internationally acclaimed knitwear designer transformed it into her own catwalk.

Nicky Thomson, who is based in Leigh Sinton, chose the stunning backdrop of Worcester Cathedral and the adjoining King's College to launch her 2013/14 autumn and winter collections with the help of London models.

Over the past six years her British ethical knitwear label has rapidly built up a reputation for textile innovations and a commitment to fine craftsmanship.

She was invited to Buckingham Palace to meet The Queen in 2010 in recognition of her contribution to the British clothing industry.

The majority of the collection is manufactured by a small family business in the Midlands.

“All our knits are individually finished by wonderful people with specialist skills. My collections are very wearable, on trend and will appeal to people looking for individuality,” she said.

Coun Simon Geraghty, the city council's leader, said: "It’s great news that Nicky Thomson has chosen to profile her new collections in Worcester - let’s hope some of her customers will see the images and feel inspired to come and visit the city!”
